Position Summary
The Dispatcher is responsible for coordinating daily transportation and logistics operations, ensuring the timely movement of critical shipments and maintaining a high standard of service.
This role serves as a central point of coordination between drivers, clients, and internal operations teams. The Dispatcher monitors active shipments, coordinates drivers, manages routes, communicates updates, and responds quickly to time-sensitive issues throughout the assigned shift.
The ideal candidate has proven experience in dispatch, final-mile, freight, or logistics operations and is comfortable making quick decisions in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Driver Coordination
- Monitor and coordinate active drivers throughout the assigned shift.
- Assign and reassign routes based on driver availability, traffic conditions, shipment requirements, and client priorities.
- Serve as the first point of contact for drivers experiencing delays, breakdowns, or route issues.
- Track driver locations and shift status using dispatch and TMS platforms.
- Communicate operational updates, protocol changes, and performance expectations clearly to drivers.
Client Communication
- Serve as an operational point of contact for clients during assigned shift hours.
- Provide proactive shipment updates and manage client expectations.
- Handle time-sensitive inquiries and escalations professionally and promptly.
- Document client communications, exceptions, and resolutions accurately.
- Ensure a consistent client experience throughout the assigned shift.
Route Optimization
- Monitor active routes and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and on-time performance.
- Respond to traffic disruptions, routing issues, and capacity constraints in real time.
- Use dispatch software and TMS tools to maximize driver utilization.
- Collaborate with the Branch Manager on recurring operational and routing challenges.
Shift Operations & Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of dispatch activity, driver status, exceptions, and client communications.
- Complete end-of-shift handoff reports covering open items, escalations, and notable events.
- Follow company SOPs, safety protocols, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Escalate critical operational issues to the Branch Manager with the relevant context.
Qualifications & Experience
Required
- Minimum 2 years of dispatch experience in a final-mile, freight, or logistics environment.
- Knowledge of final-mile logistics operations, including routing, driver management, and time-critical deliveries.
- Proficiency with TMS, dispatch software, or route optimization platforms.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple conversations and operational priorities simultaneously.
- Availability to work the assigned shift, including weekends and holidays as required.
- Ability to make timely decisions in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience dispatching multiple vehicle classes, including Box Trucks, Reefer Vans, and Tractor Trailers.
- Experience in airport-adjacent or time-critical medical/freight logistics operations.
- Familiarity with TSA compliance requirements and airport cargo protocols.
- Experience working in a high-volume logistics environment.
